Festival Chic

By: Lewis Benson

Here it comes again - that time of the year when individual style, fashion, and music meet in harmony – my idea of total bliss! I thought it would be fitting, what with all the current Festivals going on here over the pond, that we pay homage to my current favourite Festival trend.

Throughout the years of me attending festivals, dragging about tents in unpredictable weather, and drinking until the sun goes down; I have noticed a gradual trend, which we have seen throughout the summer collections of Spring/Summer 2010. What with weather being so unpredictable, (particularly here in London!), don’t let the grey and murky skies deter you – it’s all down to preparation and a little help from the Fashion Gods.

The summer collections of Spring/Summer 2010 have seen a clear, aesthetic inspiration and direction. As seen in Paris at the Chloé Ready-to-Wear Spring/Summer 2010 collection, one can understand undertones of Military and Safari – PERFECT for festival goers.

So, guys, here’s my brief guide to being festival fabulous: This year team chic yet versatile Ponchos with neutral, multi-pocketed shorts with a statement pair of espadrilles or gladiators to complete a chic yet understated Festival style. However, to avoid looking like a terrible Lara Croft impersonator, don’t forget to mix and match bold, geometric patterns and colour with more classic, muted pieces. So girls, whack out that sun block and those sunglasses – its Festival a-go-go!
